Lecture details:
Outsourcing within R&D is not a new trend. As ressources for R&D projects are at short supply it rather became a necessity. Outsourcing secures the access to new technologies and human ressources or research partners in order to ensure future turnovers and earings. It is one of the soaring tasks for research departments - especially within the serial product development -to steer R&D projects with multiple partners which run development centres on a global scale. Transferring the customers requirements into technical specifications, realising the specifications together with external partners and integrating the resulting parts to the final product are only a selection of the skills a modern R&D staff ought to have.
Mastering the processes on requirement management and the related integration including the controlling proccesses of research partners and suppliers shapes a new core competence. There's a whole new set of expertise required from the "classical" Engineer. But it's the company itself who has to react to these changes. Securing a non-stop development of new products needs new strategies. It's helpful to face this challenge efficiently and covering the risks by choosing a structured and validated course of action.
