Improvement of the Software Development Process for Automotive ESP Control Devices
The project involved the introduction of measures to improve the software development process for control devices used in automobiles. The first microcontroller-based ABS control devices developed in the early 1980’s led to an explosion in both functionality (ESP, hill-start assist, electronic parking brake) and the associated development effort for the embedded software.
In close collaboration with the customer, we developed processes to coordinate the software development work of 400 employees to facilitate cooperation and improve software quality.
The project work includes the following issues (not a complete list):
- Introduction and monitoring of a process for regular checks of basic development
- Provision of key process indicators for basic development and application development for quality and process control
- Development of requirements and tests of internal tools to support the software development process
Thanks to the support provided by BeOne, basic software quality increased, making it easier to add on customer applications. As a bonus, the project results obtained from the SPICE evaluation conducted in parallel were specified and accepted as a source of information and partial processes.
